Horizon Forbidden West has much to offer in terms of gameplay, and just like in the first game, there are hours worth of story and missions to be had. The last thing you want whilst in the middle of a juicy storyline is to lose progress for whatever reason, so here is how to save in the game.

The good news is that the save system remains mainly the same and carried over from Horizon Zero Dawn.

Manual Saving

Campfireswill be dotted along your routes throughout your journey, and this is one way you will manually save.

Simply, approach a campfire to interact with it. You will want to pressTrianglefor a quick save andSquareto manually save in a designated save slot.

Another new method to manually save is by going intoShelters. Shelters are a place where you can upgrade your gear and craft items. Think of them as little upgrade tents where you can be safe and save as well. If you can’t see a campfire, then check for a shelter.

Autosave

If you are concerned about not encountering enough campfires on your way and getting caught in-between two sections whilst being taken out by a Sawtooth then worry not. The game also hasautosaveactivated. So, if there’s a long break between manual saves, you won’t be as far back.

The likelihood is that you will be running back and forth between campfires regularly enough to prevent any sort of progress loss anyway, but the autosave function is a nice comfort blanket in these gaming times.
